In the outskirts of Frankfurt am Main you find Ost Park which is a big green field with a lake, three football fields, a children's playground, and trees surrounding it all. In the summer it is widely used for recreation: sun bathing, social life, picnic, football, playing, etc.
In the park there is also a pavilion made by a landscape architect. It is a half circle with ceiling of concrete and benches underneath. In front of it is a sandpit for children. The pavilion is quite worn and nobody really uses it even when the park is full in the summer, but we heard that homeless sometimes sleep there.
Ost Park (Frankfurt a.m.) Public Art Project
Curating Proposal with Jeppe Hein

We are interested in discussing the social function of the park in the park in a public art project. We are inviting artists to make local-social contextual works and events that are functional in the broadest sense of the word.
Together with these projects there will be a free newspaper distributed in the park and around town, which will fit well into the way the park is used as a recreational place, and inform the users of the park about the art project and its events. The artists can might contribute to the paper as part of their project.
In order to create dialogue between the approximately 15 artists we will arrange a two-day meeting in Frankfurt for all the participants. Here we want to visit the Ost Park, get to know each other, discuss ideas and develop the aim of the project as a group.
The artists are chosen for their social engagement and interest in intervening with structures in society. Dialogue.
